The history and tradition of R. Zoppo Corp. dates back to 1925 when its founding father and namesake, Rocco Zoppo, began contributing to the water and sewer infrastructure for the City of Boston. Soon thereafter, in the early 1930's, the concentration of R. Zoppo Corp. turned towards Federal and State Government contracts performing specialized blasting work. The Company's reputation stimulated a demand to do work both locally and throughout New England. Soon the Company found itself traveling to remote locations such as White River Junction, Vermont and parts of Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Building on its reputation with the Federal Government, the late 1930s and early 1940s resulted in the inauguration and introduction of R. Zoppo Corp. to Sewage Treatment and Pumping Station Construction. The first treatment plant constructed by R. Zoppo Corp. was in 1939 for the Town of Kingston, Rhode Island. The late 1940s brought to the Company the second generation, Bill and Tom, the sons of Rocco Zoppo, who joined the Company and added to its success. Eventually Bill and Tom would succeed Rocco as the leaders of the Company and act as President and Executive Vice President and Treasurer, respectively, for the next several decades. The 1970s and 1980s resulted in clients throughout New England and New York looking to R. Zoppo Corp. to perform very difficult underground utility projects that gained the Company a reputation in the industry as one of the most accomplished construction contractors in the area. The mid 1980s brought about the diversification of R. Zoppo Corp. into the Environmental Clean Up and Remediation market whereby the expertise of the Company in heavy construction and utility work could be combined with environmental clean-up concerns to afford Owners and Engineers a contracting source that was knowledgeable in both areas. The 1980s also introduced the third generation of the Zoppo family, Richard Zoppo, the son of Tom Zoppo and, soon thereafter, David Zoppo, the son of Bill Zoppo, who began their earnest involvement with the Company as Field Engineers and Superintendents. In keeping with the tradition and the paths laid by their forefathers, David and Richard would succeed Bill and Tom and currently provide leadership for the Company. Over the next several decades the Company would reaffirm its stature as one of the premier contractors in the region, a reputation the Company enjoys to this present day. This rebirth of the Company takes root in the original wisdom of its founder Rocco Zoppo’s belief that we should pursue unique and challenging projects that lend themselves to creative solutions developed by the Company’s skilled and dedicated workforce. Today R. Zoppo Corp. performs work across a wide spectrum of the heavy/civil sector of the construction industry. The Company can be seen working on some of the most critically important infrastructure throughout the New England region. From underground utilities, road and bridge, treatment plant and pumping stations, to flood control structures and many other unique projects – our workforce continues to build our reputation every day.
